Bonsoir de Paris!
Published by Taylor Vinson February 14th, 2006 in Torino 2006I took the train last night from Rome to Paris, and I am writing this after spending a full day touring around the capital of France.
First, Rome. It was spectacular. The first day in Rome, we (I flew in with four other friends who are also working at the Olympics) really didn’t do much, because we were so tired due to jetlag and three flights and a great deal of walking with our luggage. The next day (Tuesday) we saw St. Peter’s Basillica, the Colossium, and part of The Forum. There are not words to describe the beauty of the basillica; you walk in, tilt your head up, and just start saying “wow” repeatedly. (For all my fellow Asburians out there, it was Tuesday when my group first heard about the revival; we couldn’t believe we were missing it! We rejoice with you and celebrate God’s palpable, renewing presence on campus!) Yesterday, we returned to The Vatican to see the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo’s famous “The Creation of Man” is on display. We then returned to the hotel for a while before I boarded my train for Paris.
Today, I ate my first French meal, walked down the Champs Elysées, visited the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte, and viewed fifteenth-century French armor at La Musée de L’Armée (French for ‘army museum.’) As you may expect, I am tired! This is all very exciting for me, for many of you reading this know how much I love the French language and culture. I will spend the next two days in Paris touring before boarding a train Saturday for Torino. I arrive there Sunday morning to get settled into my venue, so hopefully I will be able to at least post again by sometime that day, if not before then.
Au revoir!
