Ups and Downs
Published by Laurjo Tegge February 15th, 2006 in Torino 2006Working at the Olympics is not always as it appears to be. I’ve had my ups and downs thus far. But the Lord is faithful, and reviving us even over here in Italy, and I praise Him for it every day. I wish all of you media students could see what we do over here. Some days, the job is literally to shovel snow for 10 hours. And then there are times like last night when I was able to shoot interviews with the athletes after finishing the Men’s Combined Event.
I guess I have been learning that it’s not really about what we do here at all, but just that we are here, taking it all in, learning what it means to work in this field and to be a tiny part in something so much bigger than our little selves. I’ve been working here almost 3 weeks now, and have just under 3 weeks left to go. It felt like Ihit a wall a few days ago, where I was just missing home and my new family ( I got married December 30th) and feeling so isolated here from everything I know, and I didn’t feel like I could type a journal here that just told everyone have perfect we have it . I definitely am grateful for this experience and soaking it all in, but I just wanted to be real and show you this other side of our Olympic experience.
Please be in prayer for us over here, as we are faced with new witnessing opportunities every day. I never thought it would be so obvious that I was different than the Italian students here, but they tell me that my reddish blonde hair and blue eyes are the first dead giveaway, and then the fact that I won’t drink with them, don’t dance with them, and read the Bible and have scripture quotes as bookmarks makes me stand out even more. I get questions about marriage, about God, about the Catholic church and all sorts of different things every day, and I know that I need to share the reason for my faith and my joy as every answer comes from my lips. We need your prayers over here, and do be encouraged that we have been praying for you all as well.
Ciao! LjT
